Pretty much a carbon copy of my post on TLA, but a slightly wider audience here... I apologise for the small pics - see my blog for the full sized ones. The changes that imageshack has made since I last posted photos anywhere as put me off them for good. My blog link is in my signature.

Where did time go? I painted a few things around December 2012, but a look back through my posts tells me I never posted them - but they're on my blog if you want to take a peek. Anyway, this is the first time I've touched a brush in more than a year, and the first time I've done anything serious in a year and a half.

With more pictures on my blog (link in the signature), allow me to present Eowyn, Aragorn, and Elrond:

Aragorn is a little blurry and has lighting issues (taking photos with my iPod, and experimenting with a photo setup), so apologies for that.

This eowyn of yours is fantastic. Great job on Elrond too. Hope you get some more painting in before your next break.

Very nice painting and background. Question about Elrond - that figure is from the White Council set that I keep debating if I should buy. Can he be posed so he isn't looking down or does that throw off the whole way he is standing?

Yeah, sorry about those small pics - imageshack changed since I last used it, and full sized pics are no longer free. I'll look into using another hosting site for the future. Cheers Sith for providing a bigger pic :)

Mapper - He's a single component, so either you'd have to place him on an angled surface like a rock, or do a bit of conversion work to change the angle of his head, and given the cost of the model, I'd shy away from even trying.

Eowyn's not actually totally finished. I still need to highlight the sword blade, but I don't have any lighter metallics than the old boltgun metal. Heaps more paints should be arriving in about a week to bolster my dwindling supplies, so I plan to paint more then.

Thanks everyone for the great responses!

Thanks for the answer, think I will pass on buying the new white council. It seems like there are too many issues with that set for me; Saruman looking up, Elrond looking down, and it seems to me that there is something wrong with the scale between figures. Of course, if I could paint as well as you I might buy it anyway as I would like an unarmed Elrond.

I think he still looks good set up beside dwarf/hobbit sized models, but I definitely get what you're saying.

I have bigger pictures now - I didn't initially realise I could use the image urls straight off my blog.

Looking sweeeet,

My only crit is the tufts. I think if you use some PVA on them it dissolves the lump of glue holding them together and they then look more natural.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

@Dezartfox, I actually did use PVA to stick the tufts onto the bases. I'm not sure why or how PVA would dissolve the glue on the base of the tufts, but I don't doubt you either. I didn't use a lot to stick them down, so maybe If I use slightly more it will help next time, but I shall have to experiment because the whiteness showing through bugs me quite a bit.

@LordoftheBrownRing, I'm glad you think that, as traditionally I struggle to do faces that I'm happy with. The brightness of the lighting hides the roughness on the surfaces in the picture where layers of paint were drying as I applied them. Hopefully I can do even better in future (because better work means more ego-boosting comments like yours :-D ).

I'm planning to do Gandalf the White next up once my new paints arrive, and probably follow him up with either Bilbo or Bard, most likely Bilbo because I want to kind of go through painting models with each colour in them (having just done a bit of blue and brown, by then also white, so his red jacket makes him the choice).

Been working on fixing up some second hand and new models over the last few days. Boromir and Shelob are two particularly intricate examples, having had to resculpt Boromir's upper arm and turn a right leg into a left leg on Shelob.

Presenting Gandalf:

WIP shots can be found on my blog. I had to speed through him for the competition because I only had 30-ish hours to get him from undercoat to done, and I was tired already when I began.

He was a challenge to get donem but I'm pleased with the outcome :)

Wow, he looks fantastic. I like that the shadows are not exaggerated and everything looks subtle and realistic. Great job.

Thanks Sith :)

I've just finished a couple more fix ups on more second-handers. Legolas had a dodgy bow that was warped and stunted, and Elessar had the arm of the foot version.

Through these small fixes I've been doing lately, my confidence has begun to build with using putty for sculpting.

Legolas now had a bow limb made of sheet plastic, and Elessar has a reworked shoulder and handle for Anduril.

Until next time!
