Should I get Drwaves or Mordor?

Dear Strategy Battle Gamers,
Last year, I started playing this game and I really liked. I played a lot of casual games (with a borrowed army) and now I would like to start playing on tournaments. The problem is that I don't know whether to play Mordor or Dwarves. I've seen a lot of people playing Dwarves and most of them lost their games. The same happens with Mordor. I like the models from both armies. But since I can't decide by my self, I need to ask you to tell me the advantages and the disadvantages of both armies. Thanks a lot for your help and I hope you all keep enjoying your hobby.

Well, I assume you are talking about Durin's folk and not erebor dwarves?

Durin's Folk are very very hard to kill with the basic line trooper having a defence of 7! They can also hit fairly hard when using the strength 4 elites like iron guard and khazad guard, and fight 4 across the board is never a bad thing. Dwarves also have some very powerful and cost effective heroes like Gimli and I've never used him but balin with durin's axe is supposedly quite good too. However with a movement of 5 dwarves are slow, and this combined with the dwarf bows range of 18 makes it very hard to deal with skirmishing cavalry like Rohan. They also lack spears which makes it much harder to form a battleline. Dwarf armies are also usually quite small which means you are often outnumbered.

I wouldn't know where to start with Mordor the book is so varied, if you where to use Mordor what type of army would you like to use?

For a beginner I'd suggest Mordor. You have lots of room to experiment in that faction. Dwarves are very good but not strategic at all. It's hard to play them well.

I'd disagree on the Dwarves. It definitely takes a deft hand to play them but they've never failed me. Still undefeated with Durin's Folk!
