I really like the masks on the knights, it reminds me of the guards of the fountain court. The color scheme is really cool and now that I look at the helmets I realize just how big the actual knight's heads are on the originals. That is a really cool and creative conversion! 8)
And I really look forward to seeing your next project, the fort of Celentir.

The desert cracks on the bases look very realistic!

The bases look great, I do like Agrellan Earth it does look realistic, only snag I find is that it takes a long time to dry and getting that consistency right is key too, otherwise I've had to redo it or add more when the cracks haven't been good enough. You've got a great consistency there though, the cracks look great!

So i have been away from the hobby the past 2 months due work but its time to come back with my next project, the Helmingas! (witch i will also use for the warbands hobby challenge! :D )

I had this project for a long time on just prototypes and sketches. In my head i always imagined helmingas as a brutal version of the rohirim warrior, more barbaric and all time warriors rather than simple peasants, farmers that have taken up arms.

Image

First i wanted to use a unique shield to represent the same symbol (crossed axes) as their banner. It might not be the most round shield but i will round it more once i have duplicate it (read bellow).

Image

The long time of waiting had something good, i managed to duplicate not only the shields but also countless axes in the meantime.

Image

And just because i always forget to take wip photos, i started already with the first conversion towards a helmingas warrior. I have added:
- a spare axe in the belt to represent throwing weapons.
- Changed the helmet to match more to grimbold's (after all i want to represent all-time warriors and that are not equipped with scraps).
- Furs! Many furs on both clothing and the back of the cloak to represent the the snow terrain witch i will add them.
- the shield hanging on their back (not for everyone)

Image

Image

*in these photos i have not positioned the hands yet and i will upload a photo of each of the helmingas when they are ready to be painted

the rest of the 5 helmingas are coming very soon as i have to paint them for the hobby challenge aswell!

Yep, I agree. A really nice project with a very personal note, I like that a lot! 8) The custom shields are very nice, did you do the moulding and casting on your own? The WiP looks already very, very promising, keep it up!

Such nice feedback already! I will push the project to be ready by the end of this month! :D
Yes i do the molding and the casting with silver (so they are valuable too :P ) witch is the only metal i can work with the machinery i have (jewelcrafting).

And just to avoid any confusion:
I only cast bits to improve my own collection, there is absolutely no way i will agree to sell any of my castings due to trademark, copywrite and respect for GW trade rules.

Fantastic! I like the idea a lot and you have executed it very nicely. The first wip already looks incredible...the fur, as well as the axe and the custom shield give a hole new look to those old plastic rohirrim. Very cool!

Very cool idea and executed well so far.
It looks you breathe in new life to the rusty ol' Rohirrim sprue.
I'll be watching carefully your progress on this one.

The green stuff work I'm seeing of late is exceptional and this is no different. Don't forget a couple of mould and flashings need cleaning up. I can see them on the axes.

After scraping some of the previous helmingas and remaking them from the scratch again because i was not satisfied enough they are finaly ready!!
These are the final version without any alternation from now on and are set to be painted.

NOTE:you might notice some green stuff blobs holing weapons, these were only put together to hold some parts for photo shooting and were taken apart after so the miniatures can be painted easier.
Also some detailed is lost on the photos due to green stuff but will appear nicely when they are all painted.

This one was the most difficult to make as the axe is getting thrown and it was difficult to hold it in the air, there is a small wire attached inside the axe and a lot of super glue around to make it impossible to bend. In the photo you can see the glue but it was filed after smoothly.

The axe thrower is my favourite but they are all excellent conversions.
