That's why I went with silver armour on mine as well - pretty much all of Tolkien's descriptions of Elven armour mention silvery mail. It's only the movies that do the golden thing. Golden armour does look good, but I just prefer the silver...

Weta did a good job with the elves armour, that's my opinion at least. They look really good in the movies.

But I still prefer the new approach they give them on AUJ with the silver armour.

Here it is guys, got two packages in today, one from gamezone miniatures and the other being dark sword miniatures.

Image

Here is a pic of a gw high elf flanked by two gamezone miniatures. (the one on the right I got for free from gamezone for buying a pack of three dark elf lancers! I can't read spanish so I didn't understand what they wrote to me haha)
Anyway, the scale is nice tbh, I might do a company or two of these lancers to represent some sort of ancient high elf faction/army, any thoughts?

Image

this second one is just a gw galadhrim captain next to the gamezone mini's. Again, nice scale.

Image

3rd pic: Two of the three lancers I got( the third couldn't stand up :P) can't wait to come up with a color scheme and paint these guys up, will have to sand some of the molded engravings though, we'll see..

Image

This fourth one is the best. Two gw mini's next to my new fingolfin! I really fell in love with this figure when I just got it, the scale is really good, and he will stand out nicely in my army.

Anyways, there we have it guys

Haven't seen Gamezone miniatures before, they look good and do go very well with the GWs IMO

I have a bunch of Gamezone elves and am really looking forward to painting these up. I think they match LoTR elves quiet nicely. Also love the GZ dwarves.

Well guys, here he is, fingolfin

I really need to invest some time and money into a professional photo taking setup, so I can give you guys better quality pictures.

Things I want to improve on:
1. His face, can't really see it that well, but it's not as good as I wanted it to come out. I think this is because I haven't worked on a face like his before in a long time, only those small pesky high elf faces hidden by their helmets.
2. The freehand on the shield, the banner bearers freehand(pic below) and this freehand are ok imo, but I want to steadily improve on freehand work overall.

Here is now a full company of my army

The face isn't too bad and you don't need much more to make it pop a little more.
Use a red glaze to increase the shadows in the corner of the eyes and just below as well.
Get some Vallego ivory, make up a thin glaze and apply this to the nose. Use the flat of the brush with next to no paint on, now drag the brush from halfway down the nose to the tip. This will push the colour to the tip and create a nice highlight.
Use this glaze to touch up the top lip and the edge of the cheeks.
Make up a thin dark blue and glaze on the jaw to create a stubble look, if you wish.

My camera is completely useless i'll just say. You don't need an all singing all dancing camera to get pictures of your models. The most important thing is the lighting.

I only ever photograph outside in natural daylight. My camera is just a standard digital camera (its that old that most modern phones will have more megapixels)

I have tried indoor milk cartons, light boxes all sorts but have never found a better solution to outside in the natural light. Sorry I couldn't be of more help bro.

This is awesome! Nice work, I especially love the display setup you've got here. I've been debating lately if I want create display bases for groups of my minis and I think you've just convinced me. Is it just one of the War of the Rings bases? Or is it a full out custom?

Looking really good!! That 'Fingolfin' model is really nice. He fits surprisingly well with those Elf models. Good choice! :yay:

@mdewater, the bottom is a war of the ring infantry base, and where fingolfin and the banner bearer, they are on a cavalry base. I cut the original cavalry base in two, and just used one part and put it on top of the infantry base. I then added a bunch of rocks and sand around it to make it look like it's a slope.

The colors are very nice. I like how the armor is presented too, like brushed metal. Awesome color scheme and great scene for them.
