To follow on from the how long does it take to paint a mini thread, I was wondering what people's worst record times are. As in how long have you left a mini unfinished, that you eventually got done, or still intend to complete? To make it interesting, let's not count priming as a first step, rather the first colour/layer applied. I've a mumak upstairs that I'm not going to re-do, but it's been on the go since August 2005.

saruman. Just finished it but I am sure that I stripped it sept 2003 after seeing the one at GW Birmingham. I painted the eyes in 2003 but the worst offender. King of men, the witchking pose. Started 2004/5, face almost done..........then I gave up

I've got some half painted Warhammer models that I painted in 1993! Not sure if they count though as they're never, ever going to get any more paint so in a way they're already finished.

My current project has been frustrating me, I started Thror at the end of October and hope to finish him tonight so that's been pretty grim - 3 months for a single figure.

I've also got Yazneg and Fimbul on foot based and shaded as they have been for about 18 months. They'll hopefully get finished in the next few months.

When I read the post I thought about some projects that I kicked around a bit. But I actually have a good finish record. Currently I have my second eagle about 1/3 done and has been that way for 6 months I imagine. But normally I force myself to complete models on the painting desk... with the exception of Cathulu demon. I painted him to about 60% when I decided the scheme is all wrong. been on my desk for over a year as I have not figured out if I will complete him in that scheme or change it. That is it so far.

I had about 34 Numenoreans 'in progress' for about a year. Did the metal, then put them on the backburner, then did the white, noticed I'd missed bits of the metal, went back to fix that, got fed up, put them on the back burner again, and slowly, slowly got them done like that. Eventually just powered through the last stages one night when I had literally nothing else to work on.

I started my Mumak the month it was released. Still mucking around with green stuff every so often.

But.

The first model I ever bought was a mounted Gandalf. From the first range in the early 80s. At some point I cut the horse's head off to make a chaos centaur from the body. Still the 80s I guess. In the last few months of tidying hobby boxes in the 5th hobby room since then, I've found Gandalf and all the bits of the horse. I aim to finish him later this year.

So about 30 years.

Well I can't really comment on the painting as I hardly ever do any of that, but I still need to finish a Morgoth sculpt that I started 3 years ago.

Somewhere in a box... there are old citadel metal orcs that were basecoated in the early 1980's.... I kid you not.

I feel a bit better now. I'm the worst for abandoning minis unless I get them done in one go.

Roof-breaking records!

My worst is 3 years and running... could be a lot more though, or a lot less... its hard to tell once a miniature falls into the oblivious and bottomless pit of back-lag!

Saruman mounted. I bought him release weekend from my FLGS. I have moved 5 times and every time he ends up on the corner of my desk, mocking me.

He is based and I was working through the Fall of the Necromancer masterclass painting guide, but I forget where I am, so there he sits, broken-hearted.
