if I call an Heroic Strike, can my opponent wait to see how it resolves before deciding to call his own Strike or not---or must he decide before he finds out how high my new Fight value is?

All heroic actions are called before the turn begins, so you can't wait and see.

If you both call the same heroic action, a roll off occurs to see who wins.

Not before the turn begins, but at the start of the fight phase hen you would normally call heroic combats etc.

Great; thanks. So a Heroic Strike does not need to be resolved when called, at the start of the phase? I can roll later?

Same principle for Heroic Channelling? I can call which spell later?

All heroics are called at the start of the relevant phase. Heroic strike is resolved (I.e. You roll to see how much your fight value has gone up) when you come to resolving that particular combat. As such, you can't wait to see what your opponent gets before calling one yourself because it would be too late.

As others have said, you have to declare your Heroic Strike at the start of the Fight phase. What isn't clear is when you roll for the Heroic Strike, at the start of the phase or at the start of the Duel. In the GBHL Community FAQ we ruled that it was at start of the Duel, that's how things are done in the UK at the moment.

Also, Rozinante, you're correct about Heroic Channelling. You declare it at the start of the move phase but you declare which spell you want to cast when it comes to the spellcaster's turn to move.
