Hi,

I'm having a go at making this for my armies on parade entry, does anyone have any tips for this? Its my first real time working with foamboard (I've done a few test bits) and the instructions don't seem too easy to follow near the end.

In particular does anyone have tips for doing bevelled edges? Is it worth buying a specialist tool for cutting them?

Cheers,

Scib.

I've done the Journeybook Deeping Wall. I found it straightforward, actually, particularly in comparison to the gatehouse, where the instructions are unclear and it's hard to see detail in the pictures.

I found I didn't need a special tool for the beveling, just a very sharp knife. Foamboard wears down a knife blade pretty quickly, so if you're having trouble getting a clean cut, switch in a new blade.

For making the seeping wall I did this-Cut a piece of foamboard 5 inches high and however long, then cut another the same. Use the pen to score bricks into the surface. Cut another just 3 inches wide and do the same bricking as the others. Then take a piece of pink or blue foam and cut it into 1 inch by 2 inch pieces then bevel them normally. Then as a final touch up add a half inch by X piece of foamboard and lay that just below the battlements.

Thanks for the tips, for the record the Journeybook guide definitely has some mistakes in it's instructions

The DCHL has several old WD articles on its website. One of the files contains the Helm's Deep article which has some decent WIP pics of this model.
