Thanks Slinky.
I made a start on the scenery while watching the tennis yesterday, it still needs touching up in a couple areas but I don't think it looks too bad;

Also, here's some early progress on Grinnah and the Goblin Captain;

Taken me a while to get back to painting, more redecorating has led to my room being filled with boxes again but I've put some work in the last couple days and got my Scribe finished and some progress on my Goblin King.

I am wondering if I've overdone the rustiness on the wheel of the Scribe and am considering dialling it back a bit but apart from that he's done. The King should hopefully be done in the next few days.

Scribe is looking good, especially the framework. I agree about the wheel, it feels a little 'bright'. Maybe a wash of Agrax Earthshade (or equivalent) might dull it down a bit.

Some more pics of my finished Scribe and King. I decided to do as Yorcshire suggested and give the wheel on the scribe a wash of Agrax Earthshade. It still looks a little bright in the pictures but is significantly darker to the eye.

I also finished my Goblin King this morning. I put some work in to making the skin look blotchy and really making some of the warts and joints looking particularly painful.

Didn't get round to taking any wip shots of these guys but here are my finished Thorin Oakenshields, one of each weapon choice from the Goblin Town box.

Very nice scarf on the Gandalf, everything in the thread looks very nice, very impressed with the quality of the faces you have done, a job well done indeed!

Thanks for the comments guys. It's really encouraging to hear I'm doing something right :)
I've had a very productive couple of days; first off I finished my second Bilbo;

Image
Image

Then I finally finished off the platforms from Goblin Town;

Image
Image

And I've started building my next army;

Image

I'm going for an Azanulbizar themed dwarf army with 2 boxes of Warriors of Erebor, a box of Grim Hammers and all the relevant heroes (and a King's Champion) to give me plenty of options. I'm planning on taking some combination of them to Ardacon (assuming they're painted by then).

I'm also considering making a banner or two that can be attached/removed from the spears as required but am not sure just yet how I'm going to go about it, any suggestions?

Cheers DMS, I'm really pleased with the outcome on him.
I still haven't managed to get any paint on my dwarves but I have now got them all prepped and have started some of the bases.

Image
Standard warrior with sand base and cork rock.

I picked up some granite from ebay and have used that on some of the heroes;
Image
Image

I've gone for a tree stump on Thorin's base as if he's just grabbed the oaken branch from nearby;
Image

Unfortunately, one of the Grim Hammers was missing a weapon head when I assembled it so I've had to make my own from greenstuff. It's not great but I think it's close enough that it won't look out of place once it's painted and amongst the others;
Image

I should have a test model or two painted soon. I think I'm going to go for a light blue cloth, perhaps with some gold detailing to match the banners pictured below in the prologue scene at Erebor;

Painted up my test model for my warriors of Erebor this evening, excluding the base;

Pretty pleased with the colour scheme, although I'll try and keep it a bit tidier on the rest of the force. I also really love the face on that sculpt, full of character.

Next up is my test model for the Grim Hammers.

The blue suits the warrior surprisingly well :) And it sure is something different from the dark colours used by GW.
Looking forward to the rest!

Cheers Baardeend. I finished up the base on that guy this afternoon;

I also got my test model for the Grim Hammers painted up;

I've largely stuck with the colours from the Tale of Painters guide but used the same blue from my warrior on the loin cloth to indicate they're part of the same force. I'm not sure I like how dark it is overall though so am thinking of changing the brown leather to the next shade up to add a bit more contrast.

I would agree with changing the leather. The model is very dark, so the brown would help bring out the contrast as you said.
Really like the blue that you have. 8)

Cheers Wah Wing, I used Alaitoc Blue and highlighted up to Lothern through Hoeth.

I redid the leather on my Grim Hammer and feel it looks much better now;

I also got my next batch of Warriors done, here are a couple of them and a shot of all 6 together;

Next up is my King's Champion followed by the next 6 Warriors.

So, at the end of August,having 7/30 of my list for Ardacon painted, I decided I had plenty of time and didn't paint anything for 5 weeks. Then followed a fortnight where I rushed through the rest of my list in order to get it completed in time. I have managed to get the last model finished this evening so here are some pics;

And the heroes;

They'll definitely need a bit of revisiting after the weekend but, on the whole, I'm pretty pleased with them considering the timeframe they were painted in.
