Just saw this on warhammer community, thought it would make sense to post it here:
https://www.warhammer-community.com/201 ... arth-faqs/

Basically, GW are asking for input on rules questions, unclear rules, etc for the next four days - give them your thoughts over on https://www.facebook.com/ForgeWorldUK !
Might even affect the next edition. :)

I saw this and forgot to submit my question. Here’s what I would have sent.

Is an Iron Hills Ballista required to call a heroic shoot, or should the special rule be interpreted that it has the option to call a heroic shoot for free? The text of the special rule suggests that it must call the heroic shoot.

This is important because friendly archers/crossbows, will have their shots blocked by the ballista too. So, in a situation where enemy archery is not a threat, the dwarf player may want their other shots to go first. If the Iron Hills Ballista must call a heroic shoot, then the only way for other friendly shots to go first, is for them to call a heroic shoot as well – at the price of might and keeping a hero with the archers/crossbows rather than in combat. I didn’t see this addressed in the current FAQ.

Well, you're in luck (in that the question was asked and answered regardless, the answer itself may not be to your liking):
Q: An Iron Hills Ballista always counts as declaring a Heroic Shoot. Does it have to do so? (p.102)
A: Yes.
