Hi everyone

Is it worth picking up the old rule books for the scenarios or campaigns? If there is, are there any I should look out for? I saw Return if the King rule book for £5 yesterday and debating getting it

They're pretty decent, but I wouldn't fork out a lot on them. They contain a lot of scenarios and can be a fun read.

I would say maybe.... Because it helps you put books scenes into the game but profiles have changed some much since then, you will have to adapt a lot.

If you don't want to play competitively in tournaments, this could be a great buy. If you do, follow Manadar's advice. I like to keep old books for the scenarios and because they often have pictures of miniatures from angles that are hard to find elsewhere.

The old journey books for the three films had terrain and painting guides too. They are still useful if you are more interested in hobby aspect. You can find some of the same stuff online but not all of it I think. Five pounds sounds like a reasonable price. I don't think I would pay more than ten at this point though.

Thanks for all the replies.

What are the journey books? Are they the rule books from the box sets that released alongside the films? Fellowship, two towers and return?

No. The journey books were three profile/scenario books released alongside the big blue rulebook after the three films had all been released. I reckon that is the Return of the King book you were looking at but I may be wrong.

I have the Two Towers book, from the box set. Great guides and scenarios, has around 6 Helm's Deep ones that can be linked together. This was the rulebook as well, so don't buy the whole thing... just find a pdf of the scenarios and guides. Not sure if the forum bans me from posting it or not...
