I second that! We need to see those long awaited "Easterlings with Axes" which are not the Variags of Khand.

Doesn’t seem likely from the preview, but it would be interesting to see some type of unit that looked like Ingold. Plastic Osgiliath vets would be good too!! Too much to hope for, but new black Numenoreans that were similar to the Morgul Knights would be good to see!

Well, I'd better put aside another $50. Dernhelm looks predictably awesome! I pre-ordered the book this morning and 2 sets of Corsair Arbalesters.

The pre-orders are up!
You can see the new Dernhelm model in one of the images of the Gondor at War book - Éowyn with Merry on horseback, as predicted!

Besides that, you can read one legendary legion, the rangers with Faramir as leader.
I think that legion is pretty good in a small point match, until 450 points.
You can have 36 units with bows and 16 of the with spears for support.
I hope the other legendary legions have also some nice flavor in it and makes some nice changes from the 'normal' armies.

They get slecial rules too, which is nice. Woodland creature was a nice add. I also like how hero upgrades ar limited(no heavy armour on Faramir).

I missed the boat on these years ago and would love a re-release.

The Rohan dice they released that year were very similar to the "Free Peoples" dice that came out with the Two Towers. They had the horse symbol, but I think the Two Towers dice were a darker green.

So they could always release some dice with a white tree, although you would think if they were going to do it, now would be the time. Like I said, I'm not too impressed with the axe and sword design.

It is my interpretation of Tolkien's text that GW (and the films to a smaller extent) got it backwards when they identified the golden-armored troops entering the Morannon as simply Easterlings. I believe these soldiers are more likely to be Variags of Khand. (As an aside, it is too bad we did not see more of them at either battle in RotK).

GW's models for Khand fit the description Tolkien gives for Easterlings.

They were at Erebor and Dale. They fought men and dwarves all on their own. Maybe in the new show.

I see it says that Eowyn/Merry will be the only model that can officially use the passengers rule in matched play. I wonder if that means Gandalf/Pippin isn't legal for matched play? (Unless you take Pippin off perhaps?)

That must be incorrect, as Treebeard has 2 passengers according to the rules.

I decided I like the new dice after all :) Not much cooler than the Three Hunters after all, and I really like green, so that seals it.

I got my Gondor at War book yesterday. I have a stupid question:
Are there any actual new minis that came with this expansion (or whatever you would call it)? I don't mean like new versions of old models (like the three hunters), I mean like totally new troop types or heroes.

Yes there are, but they are Forge World models. We are getting 2 new Mordor Orc heroes and we got 3.5 new Gondor heroes (one is a mounted version). We will be getting a mounted Eowyn and Merry/Dernhelm in the future, as the mini has been spoiled and photographed in the book.

Thanks for that.

I'm stunned we didn't have an Eowyn with Merry on horseback before, seems like GW would have jumped on that one. I actually thought I remembered one, but I must have been thinking of Arwen with Frodo.

Has anyone played though many of the scenarios in the book? The amount of models required makes it seem quite prohibitive.
