Did some conversions to my Rangers to make them less LOTR specific. Can now use them as woodsmen or rangers in other games.

Simple but very effective. Perfect for Rangers of Shadowdeep.
Where did you source the bearded heads?

Robh - various sources. Wargames Atlantic Dark Ages Irish, old Wargames Factory Germans. Look at spruces on Warlord Games, Wargames Atlantic in their ancient ranges. They usually have some weapons you can use for conversions on the same sprue.

If you look a couple pages back on this thread I also did some head swaps on warriors of minas tirith

Thanks, I have not looked at any of the Wargames Atlantic sprues as I thought them to be "heroic 28" so bulkier than the LotR figures. Will have to look at them more closely.

Your threads here are great, I have really enjoyed reading the development of your Dwarven Gate battleboard.

It depends on which range of figures you're working on. The Wargames Atlantic heads don't work on Rohan and barely worked on the Warriors of Minas Tirith. The Rangers and Corsairs are bigger and can usually take the head ok. I have also found that the Wizkids heads are smaller and can work for Rohan.

Like I say, it all depends.

I will need some heads for the plastic Rohan, Gondorian Infantry and Rangers.
I am basing in 6's with 4 bases per unit and would like to do at least 1 or 2 bare heads for each unit, just for variety.
My thought was that the ex Wargames Factory figures would likely be the smallest.

These look very nice indeed, mate! But what other game could you possibly be painting rangers for? :-D

Thanks everyone for the support!

On my painting table are the Defenders of the Shire. I've always wanted a Aragorn with a bow and the one from the original Three Hunters just looks like a generic ranger.

Took the Aragorn figure from the Fellowship of the Ring set and the one from Helm's Deep.

Cut off the head and right arm of the Fellowship one, shaved down the right shoulder and changed the position of the left foot and rotated the left arm. On the Helm's Deep figure cut off the sword and cut diagonally down from the head keeping the head and right arm. Filled in the chain-mail on the arm. Added a bow from a plastic ranger.

Looking at the pictures, have some smoothing to do before painting.

I have trolls.

Image

Having another cave troll that came with the Battle in Balin's Tomb, I went another direction.

Image

Played around with the craft store tree trunk, having him throwing it, battering with it but ended up having the troll looking like he pulled a dead tree out of the ground.

I have trolls.

Bought a painted metal dwarf ballista off Ebay, did a few adjustments to fit my existing one.

Had to do an ammo dump (objective) to go along with my dwarven ballista battery.

Image

ammo piece is an old warhammer piece, stacked balls are beads.

I really like the troll ripping the tree up and attacking with it, awesome idea and looks fantastic! I'm working on dwarf ballistas at the moment as well tho the Iron Hills variety.

Inspired by the conversions on this thread https://leadadventureforum.com/index.ph ... =131057.90 I bought some dwarven warriors before the price went up.

Dwelving into my bits box, I made a dragon reaction force for my dwarves.

Well done! i love your dwaves! :yay:

MTM printworks is selling bits for conversions, most of their dwarven shields are almost identical to the GW originals, check it out if you want to provide the vault wardens with bigger shields.

Thanks Abersk_93, will look into those.

These armored goblins have been sitting on my painting table all of April. Had started them once, didn't like where I was going so stripped them and re primed. Went on vacation and then been battling a cold but finally finished them where they can join the goblin horde.

Look good! I just got a couple sets of the metal goblins myself, I always really liked the sculpts a lot.

Lots of other cool stuff here as well, I particularly like the troll that just pulled the tree out of the ground, I thought that was really clever.

Currently on my desk.

Image

Will get into all that in a second. What I have done - finished 24 more Moria goblins to put into the Battle for Balin's Tomb game box.

Image

Found at a craft store where under school supplies a heavy sheet with clouds that I cut some to put on the wall behind my game board. (still waiting for some nice weather to do the flocking outside)

Image

On my desk:

Rohan house thatching getting there, hopefully to be completed this weekend.

Image

While waiting for thatch to dry, started painting some wood elves.

Image

Bought some 60mm bases to transfer some projects I had on mdf and for new ones. Found the rock on a walk (ooh, that is a nice rock) that will be a standing stone.

Image

The standing stone prompted me to buy the Slaine Drune Heroes

Image

Figures are closer to 32 vs 28 of LOTR but I will use them in my Broken Legions game as larger than life evil characters

Image

Image

Finally bought Ashrak at a reasonable price from GW, and since I received Druzhag also bought two bat swarms.

Image

Think I will put Druzhag on a bigger base so his bats aren't hidden behind him.

Image

I see pinning in the future for the gw figures.

So that is what is going to be rotating on and off my workbench for awhile, depending how much time I have between house and yard work, etc.

I haven't been doing a great job of keeping up lately and I apologize for that. I'm really excited to see those dwarves get painted up. Their shields look pretty awesome! Those Slaine minis are perfect for Broken Legions and the Celts will look pretty tough with those minis leading the charge. You've got plenty of projects on the go right now and I'm looking forward to seeing what you get done next!
