This was an interesting read, especially for someone (like me) who has not yet got into playing at the level where tactics matter.

I suppose the thing is also that, while there are good general principles to follow, they should be modified to fit the situation, as the scenario guidelines you have provided show.

I enjoy these types of articles, it's a shame there aren't more of them.

A good article but as a long term student of warfare across all historical and fictional genres, I would have expected to see some diagrams to illustrate points such as the refused flank. The old adage about 1 picture being worth 1000 words really does apply, especially when introducing tactics to a range of audiences including total novices. Apart from that, well done!

Very interesting and instructive article. Like Tobold, I'm not a gamer so your observations and thoughts on various tactics are very useful for me.

Thanks for submitting it!

One day I'll have to give a go in the gaming part of the hobby... maybe...
...and then I'll surelly check this article again.

Nicelly written, clear and it seems extremelly usefull, especially for those that are only starters in the game. I agree with Dorth though. A couple of diagrams would turn this article even better.

Nice one Fergus! ;)

Yes Thror, you have won many a-game against me. 1 win and a draw...

But in all seriousness, 2 things.

Firstly, you have done a neat little job.
Secondly, you are absolutely obsessed with writing articles.

OK, you're better than me. [/honesty]

But just because I haven't beaten you doesn't mean I haven't beaten others...

I was considering adding pictures. I probably will edit some pics back in, at a later point. I kind of forgot that it was on submitted status, and it was accepted before I got back to it. So yes, there will be pictures, just not yet.

And who doesnt know the legendary Thrór Clawhammer? ;)

I try to know everyones real name. After some time you get to know pretty well at least the most regular posters or chatroom users.

Of course, with so many members its virtually impossible to know everyones name... but meh... I do what I can!

Besides, there's a thread that helps at times (click here).

You've done a great job Thrór Clawhammer.
Just one question: can't "black rain" be used if you take as main contignent the grey company, cuse they do not have archery limit?
What do you think?

Best wishes for 2008
