I am going to make this one. I could not resit the waterfall.

I can not recommend The Hobbit Chronicles enough. There are more than 30 illustrations of the giants alone.

I like that pic. So you're making one too now? I'm an inspiration! If you get a WIP up first can I post my pics on that one too? If not that's ok i'm just wondering.

What about ideas where miniatures can walk on the giant, so its both a model and a piece of terrain like in the films.

I can't think of a scenario where any one would do any thing but run from one of the Movie Storm Giants.
My planning model--

Cliffs, two water falls, one or more ponds, a cascade. a cave and a forest. May be I should build two

Going back to stats, I think it should be something along the lines of:

5/4+ 10 10 4 10 7 0/0/0

It would include some of the same rules that the catapults have (kill out right and such) with a throwing weapon that has the same rules as a catapult (kill outright, scatter) with a stomp attack similar to the Mumak. And a 4+ "save" similar to the Great Goblin. It would of course have to be about 500-600 pts, but hey, it's a STONE GIANT.

I just spotted this - I like the image:

And here is a fascinating bit of background discussion into the whole subject:

http://middle-earth.xenite.org/2013/03/ ... he-balrog/

We began the discussion of how to. I feel the large size will not be playable. It is a mountain/earth elemental. You could not possibly harm one. It would crush anything short of a General Products space ship hull. Mixing universes but fantasy invulnerable vs Sci Fi invulnerable. Sci Fi wins. :P That is why I am going to build mine as terrain. On the other hand there is room in the universe for smaller stone giants and may be Fire and Ice giants.

I am going to make mine about about 35 scale feet in 1/48 scale I could even go 40 feet. That would be an even 10 inches.

Image

12 1/2 inches would be 50 feet. Tree beard is just under 17 feet tall. My sleeping Storm giant is 100 feet tall. I have decided to make a pair about the size of my new tree. I am going to use them in another game.

Like the idea a lot more now dorthonion. I also like draugluin's stay line but he will have D 100 definitely.

I think the D100 is too much, not enough stuff in the game can even do anything against it. You would need several catapults and/or Sauron just to even think of facing it.

I was also thinking a special rule that gives a chance for the giant to run away after a certain amount of turns/combats.

I like that too, with the D100 I suggested I never saw him as anything other than a scenario piece, perhaps with rules similar to sentries in whoever has priority moves him etc and he would be completely independant (so he could fight both sides). Although a scenario where you defend against him would be cool too

To be honest and realistic guys, these things are going to be invulnerable to most of the denizens of Middle-earth. They are walking rocks! Huge walking rocks! I think that Sauron, the Balrog, Smaug and maybe a small number of the normal sized heroes like Galadriel, Gandalf, Saruman, Elrond, maybe Radagast, Glorfindel and the like could possibly either defeat or nullify the giants, so pitch stat lines at that sort of situation. In terms of war engines, trebuchets and Mordor catapults might treat them as fortified buildings in terms of hitting and damage.
Of course, the points cost for one of these should be pretty horrendous and they should only be allowed in mountainous areas - it would not be fair to have one turning up in Hobbiton now, would it?

I agree dorthonion and James. Do either of you propose a statline and/or special rules?

A cool scenario would be two stone giants fighting but the dwarves have to get to the cave by hopping in between the giants fighting. The dwarves would be perched on their legs and stuff and you would make jump and climb tests. They would have to try and not get knocked off and stuff. I think it would be quite fun.
