Hey guys, how are you?

I've recently started converting some Warriors of Minas Tirith in to Osgiliath Veterans, and to represent how they've been fighting for days on end I've given them a lot of non-regulation weapons, i.e axes, picks, maces etc etc.

Now, although the official GW models only carry swords, is it possible for my Osgiliath Veteran holding an axe as his handweapon of choice to use it as that? My friend is unsure as to whether this is the case or not, but I think that it'd make sense.

Thanks,
Jake.

as for uruks you can also get various weapons instead of the swords?

Now a tricky model I´ve been looking at, the uruk hai berserker

Image

As you notice the tip of the sword is pickaxe pointy edge and big enough to make a good use of it, does this blade can be used to count as pickaxe as well?

No. It's listed as a 2-h sword that's it's only option unless stated otherwise in the war gear section

I don't believe so but that's my interpretation of the rules. Also remember that the Beserkers have normal hand weapons too

Soo means as long its normal weapon and dont tell what type of, we can assume we can give anything to them as long it keeps the weapon class type?

From the FAQ:
Q: If the profile of a model states that it is armed with a
two-handed weapon, such as an Uruk-hai Berserker or
Clansman of Lamedon, do they count as being armed with
a single-handed weapon as well? (p67)

A: Yes. Many of these models will have a secondary
weapon that is clearly visible on the model for the
purposes of determining which special strikes they can
make with their hand weapon. However, if it is unclear
which single-handed weapon a model is equipped with, it
cannot make a special strike.

That said in the source book (fallen realms) it does not say a 2handed sword.

It says two handed weapon, as such you can convert away, or use the swords as picks same goes with burdur have you seen that weapon that thing can pull a piercing strike any day

That seems borderline cheating, why would that be acceptable?

If the weapon was ment to say something would say for example on a WOMT gear: Hand weapon (sword) and armour or sword and armour, they just say hand weapon and armour, in this case hand weapon can be many things: sword, dagger, mace, maul, flail, pickaxe, axe so we just suit whats better to use :P

They corrected mistakes for example anduril, its stated its a sword.
Other weapons on models that in rules dont give the exact type of it, we dont have to assume the weapon the miniature carry its actually that 1, you need to convert to what you like. Its not a thing that I like most but for example 1 of my dwarf captains carries a mace instead of his hand axe( hes that dwarf model with axe and shield btw), he was converted but its legal :P

That was my question overall, if it says that berserkers have 2 handed weapons I can assume that partly its sword and the special attack is of a pickaxe (because the edge of the blade seems like 2 head pickaxe)

I would say its a sword and you can only feint with it. It is clearly a sword and not a pick/ axe therefor you cannot piecing strike with it.

imo I think the it should be able to pierce and feint(obviously not in the same turn)

Yet again look at what burdur carries I play that as a piercing weapon that can feint

It makes sense cause even on wiki they use those edges to pierce through a target.

text on wiki:

"Each side of the four-inch-wide blade was hammered to a sharp edge, and one blow from it could cut a man in a half. It was not an elegant or particularly efficient sword --- for example, the spikes could be caught in the victim --- but the level of intimidation generated by such a nasty weapon was huge. "

Funny thing about uruk swords that should get a usefull rule other than feint:

"The swords of the Uruk-hai are strangely crafted. They are straight the whole way; however, at the top of the weapon there is a spike potruding from the blade, used to snare a horseman and pull him to the ground. Also, if the sword was held backwards, it would still increase pain and likeliness of the enemy's death.
"The upward-pointing spike on the end was an ingenious addition by Saruman, a learned scholar skilled in the arts of warfare. Knowing that he would be facing the legendary Rohirrim cavalry, the additional spike could pull a rider from his horse with minimal effort and either kill or disable his mount. It also served as a terror weapon, sending many shivers down the spine of even experienced soldiers."

So they could use for 2 methods, also beleiving piercing strike should come from this, since if you turn them around, they function exactly like a pickaxe.

seems this weapon special rules only benefits goblins the most since their puny fight and armour makes no diference to soo cheap and numerous horde.

Weapon strikes are always WYSIWIG. If you so wish, you can convert all your bersekers to have axes so they may piercing strike. But remember you'd have to go 2H at the same time. Personally, if we met at a tourney and you wished to use standard beserkers and have them pierce I'd be inclined to say no. They are clearly swords and not axes or picks.

So what you're proposing is a weapon that counts as multiple types for the purpose of striking. Sure why not, because it's totally not broken considering every Uruk is armed with one and doesnt have to pay an upgrade cost. Unlike the elven blade or pick hammer.

I didnt said I would use it, although I migth convert stuff in order to use diferent type of weapons, not all models will carry of course since this special weapons got downsides which for an uruk are not so good lol
