I am pretty sure there isnt anything similar to the easterlings, maybe some chinese/japanese samourai style close to khandish. But indeed you can find easterling warriors really cheap around. And many stores still have the 20/warriors boxes still available to save some further money.

With the integral base, Mithril minis are noticeably taller. If you cut them off, or prop your GW minis on rocks or something, then the height difference isn't especially noticeable (I guess depending on how picky you are with scale).
One thing I've done for some converted dragon knights is to take a plastic Roman or Greek head wearing a masked helmet. Not sure why, but to me the helmets with faces sculpted into them for the Easterling vibe.
I think unaltered samurai are too iconic, but you could use them for parts. You could also try the Perry Brothers Korean Historicals, some in there might fit.
